Allen Jason Wooten testified that he was having an extra-marital affair with Stone and they had an argument on the day of the murder. 

It did not take long for the cops to find that Wooten had killed her. He confessed his crime and his confession was recorded.

Wooten asserted that they had been dating for over a year before the murder. Their affair was even confirmed by some of their co-workers.

The killer at first admitted to the affair only and denied having been involved in her disappearance. But after he failed the polygraph test, he confessed that he had planned the murder of Ruiz.

At first, he made it sound like it was just a reaction to the alleged threats Ruiz was giving to his family. However, looking at the severity of the murder, the jury did not consider his assessment.

Allen was convicted of violent first-degree murder and sentenced to 40 years of imprisonment. He was sentenced to a further six years in prison for abusing the victim's body.
